Charles Bibbs - Biography
Internationally Acclaimed Artist
Born in San Pedro, California and raised in Harbor City. Bibbs credits his parents with recognizing and encouraging him to develope his talents.
Mixed media artist, acrylic, pen and ink. Using his ethnic heritage as inspiration, along with a mixture of realism and fantasy, Charles has developed a distinctive style that is uniquely Charles Bibbs, a native of Southern California, Bibbs exposure to African and Native American Art which both have a distinct, spiritual motivation, is strongly reflected in his work. Bibbs's artwork manages to fuse African, African American and Native American cultural themes, to make powerful cross cultural statements. His art is thought provoking and arouses strong emotion across ethnic, gender and generational boundaries across the board. His art conveys a deep sense of spirituality, majesty and dignity, they recognizably Bibbs.
Texture, movement and energy are regarded as hall mark of fine art, they are the crest of fulfillment sought by every artist and the nucleous which forms the soul of Charles Bibbs, through out his career, Bibbs has persisted in exploring new avenues.
Bibbs has always believed that we are the keepers of our culture, and as such, has spent much of his time working towards developing a cohesive,energized African American community. He is a commited activist on behalf of economic developments and empowerment in the community. Serving on boards of museums and art organizations to support the art community, he has lectured and conducted panels and workshops in major cities incvluding the Urban League of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, the Charles White African American Museum in Detroit and the Riverside Metropolitan Museum. Bibbs work have been featured in many Publications, Upscale, Jet, Ebony and Ebony Male. He has interview on numerous television and radio programs. the Tavis Smilely Show, TV one Studio and the Steve Harvey Radio Show. In 2008 Bibbs created the " Black Madonna" for Fox Searchlight Film, " The Secret Life of Bees " and was the first visual artist to hired to create for a Fox Searchlight film.
