Born in Monck's Corner, South Carolina in the rich culture of the Gullah People his heritage overflowing with a vital history and language would play a significant role in his art in later years.
A self taught artist, Campbell art work is influenced by his experiences of growing up in Monck's Corner, South Carolina, around the people of the Gullah.
Working in mixed Media of collage, charcoal. Ink, pastels, acrylics, old african american newspapers, fabric and found objects. his art work is well known for its sillhuetted images, elongated necks, and arms and legs. Inspiration for his collage work came from two of the artists who influenced him the most Jacob Lawrence and Romare Bearden.
Leroy's art has been featured on hit television shows such as Jamie Foxx Show, Martin, First Wives Club, living Single, The Heat Of The Night, The Cosby Show and Fresh Prince Of Bel Air also NBC's Today Show, New Yorkers, Japan Public Broad Casting System and News Week Magazine.
